MCM Comic Con – Manchester, 30-31 July 2016

MCM Comic Con (or MCM Expo) is a multi-genre fan convention held annually in several cities across the United Kingdom, with London, Birmingham and Manchester venues being the most attended ones. The MCM Comic Con is organised by the MCM (Movie Comic Media) Expo Group, recently operating under the new brand MCM Central.

The convention mainly focuses on comics, manga, anime, fantasy and sci-fi genres, as well as video games, mainly from the United Kingdom and Japan, but also from other countries from all around the world. The event is frequently attended by movie and television show stars as well as various memorable industry personalities and other celebrities.

Manchester MCM Comic Con, held this year between 30-31 July 2016 at Manchester Central Convention Complex, will feature a large floor space for corporate exhibitors, which usually include well-known movie studios and TV stations, as well as a separate section for private exhibitors and assorted dealer stalls selling genre-related books, merchandise and memorabilia.

The highlights of the show will be: Special Guests (see the detailed list below), Photo with the Stars Area, Comic Village (Workshop for Comic Creators and Fans of the Comics Medium alike), Theatre (with previews of upcoming genre-related films and television shows), Cosplay & Masquerade, Stalls with Memorabilia and Dealer Stalls. In addition, MCM Comic Con Manchester will be staging an eSports tournament with the dedicated arena hosting various video game competitions.

Special Guests:

Luke Pasqualino - Although it was the teen TV series Skins that brought this heartthrob English actor of Italian descent to fame, Luke Pasqualino could be recently seen starring also in several science fiction films such as Snowpiercer and Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.

Peter Davison - Peter Davison is an English actor best known for his role as the fifth incarnation of the Doctor in the Doctor Who television series, which he played from 1981 to 1984.

Ian Beattie - Ian Beattie’s first brush with the genre was in the Space Truckers science fiction comedy. More recently, he appeared in Game of Thrones as Ser Meryn Trant, in Vikings as King Brihtwulf, and in Barbarians Rising as Quinctilius Varus.

Roger Ashton-Griffiths - Amongst other roles, Roger Ashton-Griffiths starred as Sir Boris in Merlin television miniseries, but he is best known for his role as Mace Tyrell in HBO’s TV show Game of Thrones.

Ian Gelder - Known for his numerous stage and screen roles, including Mr Dekker in Torchwood: Children of Earth, Ian Gelder starred recently as Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones.

Ian McElhinney - This Northern Irish actor and director has appeared in many television series in a career spanning more than thirty years. Ian McElhinney’s notable appearances include Hornblower and The Tudors and his most recent role in Game of Thrones, where he plays the role of Barristan Selmy.

Warwick Davis - Warwick Ashley Davis is an English actor who played the title characters in Willow and the Leprechaun film series, one of the Goblin Corps in Labyrinth (alongside David Bowie as the Goblin King), the Ewok Wicket in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and most recently Professor Filius Flitwick and Griphook in the Harry Potter films.

Andrew Lee Potts - This English actor is best known for his role as the quirky Connor Temple in ITV’s science fiction television series Primeval, a role he later reprised in the Canadian spinoff Primeval: New World. Andrew Lee Potts more recently starred as Gabriel Hood in Dracula TV series.
