A new trailer for 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' has been released

A new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been released, offering fans a glimpse of several new characters from the Star Wars lore as well as a brief Darth Vader’s appearance in this first Star Wars spin-off film, which stars Felicity Jones as the leader of a small group of unlikely heroes that band together for a daring mission to steal the plans for the Death Star, the feared Empire’s weapon of mass destruction capable of destroying an entire planet.

The events of the film, which doesn’t form part of the main sequence of Star Wars films (Star Wars Episode I-IX), are set to unfold before the events of the first Star Wars film Star Wars Episode I – A New Hope, which was originally released in 1977.

The two-minute trailer, which is distinct from the ‘making-of’ teaser shown at the last month’s Star Wars Celebration event in London, begins with a new character Saw Gerrera (portrayed by Forest Whitaker) telling Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) that “The world is coming undone.” because “Imperial flags reign across the galaxy.”.

The trailer goes on to show Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) in a secret Rebel headquarters being briefed about the audacious mission for which they have been selected.

Subsequent scenes feature, amongst other things, a new robot character K-2SO voiced by Alan Tudyk, a blind Jedi warrior played by Hong Kong action and renowned martial arts expert Donnie Yen, and an Imperial Walker being struck by a missile fired by the Rebels.

Chinese actor Jiang Wen also makes an appearance as a hard-bitten mercenary Baze Malbus, whose home has been destroyed by the imperial forces and now is taking the fight back to the Empire. The trailer also sees the latest ship in the Rebel arsenal: U-Wing, a troop transport gunship that is designed as a drop-ship for the Rebel troops, and which can also provide covering fire after the deployment, as it takes off from the Rebel base on Yavin IV.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released in cinemas worldwide on 16 December 2016.
